Raising kids is an adventure. We find ourselves laughing every day at things our kids do and we wanted to share our experiences.

Happy Birthday, Zach!
Zach celebrated his fifth birthday last week! He invited his cousins and friends from school to Chuck E. Cheese for the party. On his actual birthday he requested that we go to McDonalds for dinner (better than anything I make apparently) and came home and opened his presents from us and Ty. He is very proud of being a big kid 5 year old. It is hard to believe that he can already be so big!

Physicals
I took Zach and Ty in for their physicals this morning. Zach weighed 50 pounds (92%), is 46.7 inches tall (92%) and has a BMI that I would dream to have! Tyler is 32.8 inches tall (64%), weighs 31.8 pounds (99%) and has also has a BMI in the 99th percentile! The doctor keeps telling me that one day he will shoot up and slim down so we will enjoy referring to him as our chunky monkey while it lasts!
Zach was diagnosed with asthma earlier this year and our doctor informed us today that Ty also has asthma. Ty has had pneumonia twice in the past 6 months and apparently that is enough to diagnose him with asthma. The doctor said "kids with asthma get pneumonia". For those of you who knew me as a child you will know that I was a kid with asthma and pneumonia, so I had flashbacks to my trips into the pediatrician with a nasty cough. Our doctor said that both kids could very likely outgrow their asthma so we are crossing our fingers and toes that this will just be a childhood issue for the both of them.
They are both healthy little boys and are growing and developing exactly as they should. For that we are very grateful!

Happy Halloween from Wolverine and Sully!
Zach and Ty went trick or treating last night! In central Iowa kids go trick or treating on Beggar's Night which is the night before Halloween. Instead of saying Trick or Treat, the kids tell a joke. Zach's joke of the night was "Why was 6 mad at 7? Because 7 ate 9."

Pumpkins!
I have been very bad about posting lately. We have been very busy the past few months and don't anticipate too much slow down until after the holidays. We are celebrating Halloween at our house these days. We went to the pumpkin patch last week and then carved the pumpkins over the weekend. Here are some pictures of our time at the pumpkin patch.

We couldn't leave the pumpkin patch until Zach had a chance to ride a pony! |

Today is wear your Iowa or Iowa State shirt day at school. We wanted to remind everyone that that is not who we cheer for in our house!

Baseball Game
We spent Saturday night at the baseball game. I was able to use my company's skybox which was perfect with young kids. The ICubs even won! Here are some pictures of the night.

Our Chunky Monkey
Ty went in for his 15 month physical yesterday. He weighs 28 lb 13 oz (99th percentile) and was 31.2 inches tall (51st percentile). Our pediatrician insists that one of these days he is going to shoot up and slim down! He is a perfectly healthy 15 month old, and for that we are very grateful.

Silly Day!
Today is silly day at school. Zach laughed out loud when I showed him my idea for silly day today so I think it was successful. What do you think? Silly enough?
First Steps
After pulling himself up and scooting along the furniture for months Ty took his first steps yesterday. He took 4 steps for Matt and was walking between Matt and I taking about 3-4 steps at a time! Zach is very proud of his baby brother and is hoping he will walk to him tonight.
Happy Father's Day!
We had a very fun day yesterday celebrating Father's Day with Matt. We got up and went to the zoo hoping we would beat the heat first thing in the morning. It was still really hot by the time we left! We stopped at Culvers for lunch on our way home which is a favorite of Zach's because he gets ice cream for desert included in his kids meal. After nap we set up the pool and water table and both boys played in the water for a couple of hours. Matt and I grilled steaks for dinner and Matt and Zach ended the day by planting the garden. We were all exhausted by the end of the day.

Deep Thoughts by Zach...
"Mom, why do you call me Buster Brown when I'm not brown. I'm tan."
"Dad, your not old. If you were old you would be somebody's grandpa."

A Break in the Rain
We had a rainy Memorial Day weekend around home. Zach wanted to go to the Science Center on Saturday which was perfect because it was something we could do while it was raining! We spent most of the weekend playing inside. Finally on Monday afternoon the sun came out and it was hot and muggy outside. Zach decided it would be the perfect time to test out his new swimsuit so we filled up his pool and water table. Zach is getting a little old for the water table, but Ty loved it!
Zach was doing cannon balls into his pool. Of course he needed his goggles in the blue plastic pool! |
Ty had so much fun playing at the water table. He would play with the water and laugh at his brother doing cannon balls. |

Silly Zach
Zach as usual has been keeping us entertained.
1. This month at school they were collecting treats for the police department. When I asked Zach what he wanted to bring his response was "I think we should bring root beer. Every one likes root beer".
2. Whomever Zach marries may be in for a battle. "I hope someday I can be a dad. I want a kid and name him Spot".

Happy First Birthday, Ty!
I cannot believe that Tyler is one year old already one! Given that Ty has a Cinco de Mayo birthday it was only fitting for us to have a fiesta for his party. We had all of our family together and had a great time!
Matt and I got Ty a Cozy Coupe for his birthday. He spent most of the day sitting in it making car noises. He loves it! |
Zach gave Ty rides around the house in his car. Zach would push him into walls and then say "You are a crazy driver, Ty!" |
Grandpa Steve made Ty a toy box for his first birthday. It looks great in his room and I think we will be able to fill it up! |
Ty loved the tacos we had for lunch! |
He liked the cake even more than the tacos! Notice the cake sitting on his belly! |

A night out
I never post about what Matt and I are up to so I decided to change it up a little today. Matt and I were given tickets to the Kenny Chesney concert last weekend. With family in town we have never hired a babysitter for our kids, but since it would be such a late night we were able to get one of Zach and Ty's teachers from daycare to come and watch them for the evening. Zach thought it was a lot of fun to have his teacher at his house and we felt great knowing we had someone at our house who could handle both of them! We were able to relax and enjoy the concert and we had a blast!!
Go A's!!
Zach has started playing Little League T-ball and loves every minute of it! He is on the A's and wants to wear his A's hat everywhere he goes. He had his first game on Monday and struck up conversations with the opposing team as he was standing on base. Here are some pictures.

Busy Zach
Zach starts both soccer and T-ball this week. I made the mistake of thinking the two sports would not conflict. I was wrong so he is going to be a very busy 4 year old for the next few weeks. We enjoyed the nice weather this weekend and spent a lot of time playing baseball in our front yard.

Yum! The glass tasty. |
Zach would rather be pitched to then hit off the T. |
He LOVES baseball! |
Headed to soccer. He told me that he made sure to remember his smile! |
What are you doing Zach?
Every morning Zach gets up and watches one show in our bed and then gets ready for school. Yesterday his show got done while I was getting Ty dressed and he was not in our room. I was so impressed that he had started getting ready for school without me pushing him. Wrong! I heard a noise and looked down the hall to see Zach sitting in his pajamas quietly. He wouldn't have anything to do with me so Matt had to talk to him. This is the conversation that ensued.
Matt: "Zach, what are you doing?"
Zach: Silence
Matt: "Are you sad?"
Zach: "No."
Matt: "Are you happy"
Zach: "No"
Matt: "Well, what are you doing?"
Zach: "I'm wishing"
Matt: "What are you wishing for?"
Zach: "My birthday."
I'm afraid he will be wishing for a while. It is a long time until November!
Why do we even buy toys?
This weekend was the 40% off sale on paint at Sherwin Williams that I have been waiting for to buy paint for our basement. Zach and I headed over to the store and came home with the funnest toy I could ever get - stir sticks. Both boys were amused for probably 30 minutes.

Nebraska Spring Game
We took Zach to the Nebraska spring game on Saturday. He was mesmerized by Memorial Stadium and was speechless for the first 5 minutes of the game. At half time we went onto the field for the drug free pledge which all of us thought was awesome. After the game we took pictures around the stadium and even got a picture with cheerleaders.

Happy Easter!
We had a great Easter with Kate & Blake, my parents and Clay & Tamara and families. Zach was quick to go downstairs to check out his Easter basket and look for eggs. Zach got a Batman watch, Avengers sunglasses, bubbles and a book in his basket. He was very excited to wear his watch to school today. We had an egg hunt in Kate and Blake's backyard on Sunday before lunch where the kids got spoiled with candy! Here are some pictures of the day.
